Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¼ cup whole milk
  • 2 ¼ teaspoon Active Dry Yeast, or 1 packet
  • ¼ cup Honey
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter, divided
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups (480 grams) all-purpose or bread flour

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk to a near boil, until it steams and small bubbles form. Remove from heat.
  2. Let the warmed milk cool to lukewarm, between 80-90 degrees F.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the lukewarm milk, active dry yeast, and honey.
  4. Stir the milk mixture until well combined.
  5. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  6. In a large bowl, add 3 tablespoons of the melted butter, the milk mixture, the room temperature egg, and salt.
  7. Add half of the all-purpose or bread flour to the large bowl.
  8. Mix slowly until the ingredients are smooth.
  9. Gradually add the remaining flour to the bowl.
  10. Continue mixing until a dough has formed.
  11. Knead the dough for 8 minutes using a mixer with a dough hook or by hand.
  12. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface.
  13. Knead the dough for a few more minutes by hand.
  14. Lightly spray a large bowl with cooking spray.
  15. Place the kneaded dough inside the greased bowl.
  16. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap.
  17. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  18. Gently punch down the risen dough to release air.
  19. On a flat, floured surface, roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick.
  20. Fold the rolled dough in half.
  21. Gently seal the folded edges.
  22. Cut the dough into 24 even squares.
  23. Place the dough squares on 2 lightly greased baking sheets.
  24. Cover the baking sheets with plastic wrap or a clean towel.
  25. Let the rolls rise for 30-40 minutes, until doubled in size.
  26. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  27. Bake the rolls for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are a light golden brown.
  28. Melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter.
  29. Brush the melted butter over the tops of the warm rolls.
  30. Serve immediately with Copycat Texas Roadhouse Butter.

Notes

Ensure your milk temperature is between 80-90°F (27-32°C) for optimal yeast activity.
Weighing flour (480g) is more accurate than cup measurements for consistent results.
Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free spot for the best texture.
Don’t skip brushing with butter after baking for that signature shine and flavor.
