  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons red food coloring (gel recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 24 Hershey's Kisses, unwrapped
  • Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  • Chill dough for at least 30 minutes.
  • Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are set and centers are still slightly soft.
  • Immediately after removing from oven, gently press a Hershey's Kiss into the center of each cookie.
  • Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
