Luxurious layered dessert featuring fresh strawberries, crunchy pistachio kataifi, and rich melted dark chocolate.

  • 1 lb. fresh strawberries cut into quarters or sliced
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 8 oz kataifi pastry dough roughly chopped
  • 1 cup pistachio cream
  • 1 Tbsp tahini optional but recommended
  • 6 oz dark chocolate roughly chopped
  • 1-2 tsp coconut oil
  • finely chopped pistachios
  • pinch of flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Wash 1 lb. fresh strawberries.
  2. Dry the strawberries thoroughly.
  3. Slice the strawberries into quarters.
  4. Set the sliced strawberries aside.
  5. Add 2 Tbsp unsalted butter to a large skillet.
  6. Heat the skillet over medium heat until the butter melts.
  7. Add 8 oz kataifi pastry dough to the skillet.
  8. Cook the kataifi, stirring constantly, for 8-12 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  9. Remove the kataifi from the heat.
  10. Let the toasted kataifi cool completely.
  11. Once cooled, stir in 1 cup pistachio cream.
  12. Stir in 1 Tbsp tahini, if using.
  13. Set the pistachio kataifi mixture aside.
  14. Heat about an inch of water in a saucepan over medium heat.
  15. Place a glass bowl over the saucepan, creating a double boiler.
  16. Add 6 oz roughly chopped dark chocolate to the glass bowl.
  17. Add 1-2 tsp coconut oil to the glass bowl.
  18. Stir often until the chocolate is gently melted and smooth.
  19. Alternatively, place chocolate and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl.
  20. Microwave in 20-30 second bursts, stirring between each burst, until melted.
  21. Prepare 4 stemless wine glasses, small glass jars, or dessert cups.
  22. Layer a portion of the sliced strawberries into each glass.
  23. Layer a portion of the pistachio kataifi mixture over the strawberries.
  24. Layer a portion of the melted chocolate over the kataifi.
  25. Repeat the layers: strawberries, pistachio kataifi, melted chocolate.
  26. Sprinkle finely chopped pistachios over the top of each glass.
  27. Add a pinch of flaky sea salt over the top of each glass.
  28. Serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure strawberries are completely dry before assembly.
Stir kataifi constantly while toasting for even browning.
Let toasted kataifi cool fully before mixing with pistachio cream.
Melt chocolate gently to prevent burning or seizing.
Assemble just before serving for best texture.
