Incredibly creamy and flavorful mashed potatoes with the delightful tang of cream cheese and sour cream.

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 6 ounces cream cheese
  • ½ cup butter
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Peel the potatoes.
  2. Cut the potatoes into 2-inch cubes.
  3. Place the potato cubes in a large pot.
  4. Cover the potatoes with cold water.
  5. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water.
  6. Bring the water to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat and simmer until the potatoes are tender.
  8. Drain the potatoes thoroughly in a colander.
  9. Place the empty pot back on the hot burner.
  10. Add the butter and heavy cream to the pot.
  11. Heat until the butter is melted.
  12. Return the drained potatoes to the pot.
  13. Start to mash the potatoes.
  14. Add the remaining salt.
  15. Add the black pepper.
  16. Add the sour cream.
  17. Add the cream cheese.
  18. Continue mashing until the potatoes are smooth and lump-free.
  19. Garnish with fresh chives, if desired.
  20. Garnish with extra butter, if desired.
  21. Serve hot immediately.

Notes

Use starchy potatoes like Russets or Yukon Golds for the best texture.
Ensure all dairy is at least room temperature for smoother mashing.
Do not overmash the potatoes to avoid them becoming gummy.
Taste and adjust seasoning (salt and pepper) before serving.
