Festive red and green crinkle cookies made easy with a cake mix base, perfect for holiday baking.

  • 1 box (13.25 ounces) white cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • Wilton red food coloring gel
  • Wilton green food coloring gel
  • ⅓ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Line a baking sheet with a silicon baking mat or parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the white cake mix, eggs, vanilla extract, and vegetable oil.
  4. Mix all ingredients using an electric hand mixer until a thick dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into two equal amounts.
  6. Place each dough portion into a separate small bowl.
  7. Add a few drops of Wilton red food coloring gel to one bowl of dough.
  8. Mix the red food coloring into the dough until fully incorporated and desired color is reached.
  9. Add a few drops of Wilton green food coloring gel to the second bowl of dough.
  10. Mix the green food coloring into the dough until fully incorporated and desired color is reached.
  11. Refrigerate both bowls of colored dough for at least 30 minutes.
  12. Pour the powdered sugar into a shallow dish.
  13. Use a medium cookie scoop to measure out portions of the chilled dough.
  14. Roll each dough ball thoroughly in the powdered sugar until completely coated.
  15. Place the coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each.
  16. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  17. Allow the cookies to cool for 1 to 2 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack.
  18. Let the cookies cool completely on the wire rack.

Notes

Always chill the dough for easier handling and better crinkles.
Generously coat each dough ball in powdered sugar for the best crinkle effect.
Monitor your oven, as bake times can vary; aim for lightly set edges.
If dough is too sticky, work in about one tablespoon of flour.
