- 1 (14 ounce) package caramel candies
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup apple cider mix (like Swiss Miss)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 cup diced dried apples (optional)
Instructions
- In a large, microwave-safe bowl, combine the caramel candies and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the caramel is completely melted and smooth.
- Stir the apple cider mix into the melted caramel until well combined.
- Pour the Chex cereal into a very large bowl. Pour the melted caramel mixture over the cereal and gently stir until the cereal is evenly coated.
- Place the powdered sugar in a large ziplock bag. Add the caramel-coated cereal to the bag, seal it tightly, and shake well until the cereal is completely coated in powdered sugar.
- Spread the puppy chow in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle the diced dried apples over the puppy chow while it’s still slightly sticky.
- Once the puppy chow is completely cool and the caramel is set, break it into pieces and store it in an airtight container.
