Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  • Add the cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually pour in the buttermilk and mix until the dough comes together. If using raisins, gently fold them into the dough.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and shape it into a circle about 1 inch thick. Use a knife to score the dough into 8 wedges.
  • Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let the scones cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with butter and jam!
