  • 6 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries (or frozen)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or cornstarch)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free blend)
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold butter (1 stick), cut into small cubes
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Prepare the apple cranberry filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, cranberries, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. Toss to coat.
  • Prepare the oat topping: In a separate bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in nuts, if using.
  • Pour the apple cranberry filling into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apple cranberry filling.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.
